It comes as the two presidential candidates agreed to meet on September 10 for their first televised debate. Trump said he was in the chopper with Willie Brown, the former San Francisco mayor and Ms Harris's ex-partner.
The former president told reporters at his Mar-A-Lago home in Florida that during the fantasy helicopter trip, he was told "terrible things" about Ms Harris before claiming he and Mr Brown almost died.
Ms Harris dated Mr Brown, then aged 60 and speaker of the State Assembly, from 1994-1995 while she was a 29-year-old California prosecutor.
