Cooper 'shocked' by figures unearthed since Labour win... with £700m already squandered on botched asylum scheme

TORIES secretly planned to spend £10billion on the botched Rwanda plan, Yvette Cooper said yesterday.

There were gasps in the Commons as the Home Secretary revealed £700million has already been ploughed into the project scrapped by Labour.

She accused the Tories of keeping the public in the dark about the huge cost.

"It's the most shocking waste of taxpayer money I've ever seen," she said.

She said just four volunteers have been deported to the African state since the deal was revealed in April 2022.

Yet over the next six years, the Tories were set to spend £10bn on the agreement, she has discovered.

That includes £290m handed to the Rwandan government.
