AI cancer revolution

ARTIFICIAL intelligence could be as good at detecting prostate cancer as trained radiologists, research suggests.

Scientists hope the new AI model can be added to existing computer programmes on the NHS which are used alongside doctors to help improve cancer detection rates.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, and around one in eight in the UK will be diagnosed with it.

The deep learning model was found to perform at the level of an abdominal radiologist in the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer on MRI.
