KING Charles has written to Donald Trump to wish him a speedy recovery after he was injured in an assassination attempt.
It is understood His Majesty condemned the violence and expressed his condolences for the victims and their families.
But Buckingham Palace said the exact contents of the letter would be kept private.
Courtiers said the message was delivered via the UK embassy in Washington, DC.
Sources close to Trump, who holds a deep affection for the Royal Family, said he had been "hugely touched" by Charles's kindness.
In 2019, the King, then the Prince of Wales, with Camilla hosted Trump and his wife Melania for afternoon tea at Clarence House during a Nato summit in London.
The then-President had also been at a banquet hosted by the late Queen during a state visit to the UK earlier that year.
More details of the gunman Thomas Crooks emerged yesterday. In 2016 Trump's campaign listed his parents on a database as being probable gun owners.
Crooks, 20, who grazed the ex-President's ear with a bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday afternoon, was rejected from his school's rifle-shooting team due to his poor aim.
