HUGE future demand for electricity means the power network needs a £30billion overhaul.
National Grid said the massive investment is necessary to cater for more electric cars, data centres and artificial intelligence.
Plans include thousands of miles of new cables being laid by 2030.
More pylons are also expected to be needed across the country.
National Grid chief executive John Pettigrew said the investment will be on an unprecedented scale.
