A LABYRINTH of tunnels thought to have inspired the James Bond novels may open to the public and include Britain's deepest bar.

The mile-long network is 131ft below ground and protected Londoners during the Blitz before later becoming a spy hub.

Bond author Ian Fleming worked in them as part of the Special Operations Executive, Winston Churchill's espionage unit, and the tunnels are believed to have inspired the lair of Q Branch in his novels.

The SOE was designed to carry out sabotage and armed resistance in Nazi-occupied Europe.
