A BLAME game erupted as thousands risk not being able to vote tomorrow over the postal ballots chaos.
It was reported voters in more than 90 seats have faced delays and not received postal ballots.
Yesterday Royal Mail insisted there was "no backlog" and it was confident ballots it received on time would be delivered.
A source said ministers had not raised concerns over the issue. Postal Affairs Minister Kevin Hollinrake had suggested Royal Mail should have expected extra demand during the summer holidays.
He said he had spoken to Royal Mail bosses. Asked if he was confident delays e could be resolved in time, he said:
"It's difficult to say because I am not in control of all the moving parts but everybody understands the urgency."
