KING Charles' first overseas trip as monarch has been postponed due to riots in France, with fears his safety could not have been guaranteed.
Charles and wife Camilla were set to arrive in Paris tomorrow but the violence prompted President Emmanuel Macron to make the "embarrassing" decision to ask Britain to halt the tour.
Mr Macron said "it wouldn't be responsible to stage the visit amid the unrest.
He added: "Common sense and friendship led us to propose a postponement, which was detestable for the British people and for us."
A security insider in Paris said France feared that Charles' safety could not be ensured "because of his interest in mingling with crowds". While a French governmental source said: "Highly politicised activists are on the streets, and they would have targeted the King.
