The PM will kick off talks with Olaf Scholz in Berlin for a fresh deal with Germany - Europe's largest economy and Britain's second-largest trading partner, covering 8.5% of UK trade.
Six months of talks will follow, with both sides hoping a new treaty, covering market access, trade, energy security and environmental issues, could be in place by early next year.
The leaders are also likely to discuss joint action on tackling illegal migration, including intelligence sharing to combat criminal gangs.
