RICO LEWIS is aiming to cap his meteoric rise at Manchester City by gatecrashing England's squad for next summer's European Championship.

City boss Pep Guardiola (right) hailed Lewis as one of the most gifted players he has worked with, praising the 18-year-old's ability to shine in defence and midfield.

Lewis enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough campaign last season, playing 23 times all told, as City secured their historic Treble - and the medals are hanging in the teenager's wardrobe at home.

More proof of his new star status has come with requests for pictures with fans whenever he's at the supermarket. Now Lewis is setting his sights higher as his career takes off.

A year after he scored his first City goal, against Sevilla in the Champions League, the England Under-21 star looks destined to one day soon take the step up to the full England squad.
