DONALD Trump suggested the US could see greater political violence as tensions in the nation reach boiling point - after snubbing his party's first 2024 election debate.
The Republican frontrunner, due to surrender to authorities in Georgia last night on charges of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state, spoke to conservative TV star Tucker Carlson on X, formerly known as Twitter.
And the chat was timed to overshadow his eight rivals as they took to the stage in Wisconsin to make their cases for the White House.
The streamed interview in which the former US President branded his nearest rival, Ron DeSantis, "a lost cause" - gained 154 million views.
At one point, former Fox News host Mr Carlson asked Trump, who has repeatedly declined to condemn or rule out political violence, whether the US is headed toward open conflict.
