ANTI-ABORTION protesters were slammed as "shameful" for targeting women outside a maternity ward yesterday.

Religious group 40 Days for Life began a fresh "campaign of harassment on women accessing abortion services at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow.

The protesters have been criticised by pro-choice campaigners and MSPs who will consider proposals to create buffer zones around abortion clinics in Scotland.

Yesterday, one young dad spoke for many as he left the hospital with his newborn son as protesters held "prayer vigils" and clutched rosary beads nearby.

David Waugh, 26, said: "These people should be ashamed of themselves. They don't know what women or young girls have gone through.

"What about people who have been raped? They don't make the choice to get pregnant. That's taken from them.

"What about teenagers who fall pregnant? Kids don't always feel ready to bring up kids. They might still be at school or not have a job.

"They might be worried about providing for a baby. There is poverty all over Glasgow but are these people thinking about that? "Some of these women are in horrible circumstances and have been through traumatic experiences then they need to come out here and see this? "These protesters seem to have no idea that what they are doing is only adding to women's pain.
