TV STAR Nicky Campbell has told how "Scotland's Jimmy Savile" lan Wares is facing abuse claims by more than 100 alleged victims.
Former school teacher Wares is set to be returned to Scotland to face justice from his native South Africa, where he also faces a charge of child abuse.
Campbell, who claims he witnessed Wares sexually assaulting a classmate at Edinburgh Academy, has now held meetings with prosecutors to highlight the plight of victims.
And he says they are determined to bring Wares to justice despite his advanced age.
Campbell, a former pupil at Edinburgh Academy who suffered physical assaults at the hands of another teacher, said: "Some people might be surprised at our determination to bring lain Wares to justice at the age of 85.
"But he is a sprightly 85, and just three years older than Paul McCartney who is still touring the world and performing.
"It's been a very emotional period for so many of us since we started to dig back into the past, and it's been a rollercoaster at times, with hopes rising and then falling again.
"The big change now is that the South African government appears to want to be rid of him. He is now looking at facing charges relating to around 120 people.
It's on an unprecedented scale.
"It is hard to see him denying the truth when it's being relayed by so many people, but all that we have been asking is that he be tried, and that it is a fair process, and we would hope to see a just outcome."
Campbell's description of Wares as Scotland's Savile helped to drive awareness of the scale of the alleged offending he carried out during his 11 years as a teacher at Edinburgh Academy and then at Fettes College.
