FLYING ROVERS HAVE A HEAD FOR HEIGHTS

RAITH ROVERS moved to within a point of Dundee United in the title race, courtesy of Euan Murray's first-half winner at Firhill.

Third-placed Partick Thistle dominated possession - if not the quality moments of the contest as they went eight games without a win.

Raith boss Ian Murray said: "We're a point off the top with eight games to go and if you had offered us that at the start of the season, we would have taken it.

We're way ahead of where we expected to be.

"This was always going to be a tough game but we limited Thistle to wide balls into the box and Brian Graham is always a handful.

"That one at the end that hit the post could easily have gone in, so it's a big win for us. We've a tough schedule and it was important to follow our derby victory with three points here.

"Clean sheets are so, so important. This is the time of season to pick them up." Ahead of kick-off, Rovers sat 14 points clear of the Jags, with one eye on leaders United.
