EILISH McCOLGAN has endured so much pain in the past 12 months she admits just lining up for tonight's 10k final in Paris feels like a victory.
The Dundonian has become the first Scottish track and field athlete to compete at four Olympics.
But at one point that looked like mission impossible when a doctor told the 33-year-old shed be lucky to run again never mind make it to Paris.
McColgan's battle with a knee injury saw the 2022 Commonwealth champion miss her London marathon debut then sit out almost an entire year of competition.
But away from sport the tragedy of losing stepfather John last November followed by the death of her beloved gran Betty Lynch mother of her Olympic silver medallist mum Liz in May left the athlete crushed. She insists just making tonight's start line, joining fellow Scot Megan Keith, is the proudest moment of her career.
