No calm after storm

SCOTS mopped up yesterday after a battering from Storm Ashley.

The first named storm of the season had done its worst but 100 flood warnings remained in place across the country.

Many travellers faced power cuts and delays, with train, ferry and road journeys affected.

Rail passengers were hit with a number of services being cancelled, affecting the morning commute.

Storm Ashley hit the country on Sunday night and led to flight delays to and from Glasgow airport and cancelled ferries.

Despite widely publicised warnings, inexperienced hillwalkers had to be rescued from Ben Nevis in "brutal" conditions.

Braving 70mph gusts, 15 members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team attended a 48-yearold man and 33-year-old woman on Sunday night.
