Scottish flats fire warning ignored

A TOWER block blaze in Ayrshire should have been a red flag on the dangers of high-rise cladding 18 years before the Grenfell disaster, an inquiry has found.

The damning final report from the probe slammed "decades of failure" on building safety which charted a "path to disaster".

The 2017 tragedy killed 72 people after combustible cladding caused an inferno to rapidly spread through an apartment block in North Kensington, London. Now, a 1700page report into the catastrophe points to fires as far back as the 1990s which should have sounded the alarm.
