FOOD delivery drivers in Scotland who are being racially abused and sexually harassed on a daily basis have demanded urgent protection from customers. Sleazy punters turn up at the door partially dressed and make inapproriate sexual comments, leaving workers feeling vulnerable. One female driver told how she only worked during the day after feeling unsafe when turning up at somes addresses in the evening, She said: "The apps we use let customers know the driver's name, some show a picture, and if it is a woman, some men will come to the door deliberately half-dressed.
Last night a union representing the drivers have called for a blacklist in a bid to keep their members safe. Paul McLaughlin, GMB Scotland organiser in the sector, said: "Drivers are working long shifts, most often alone, and suffering appalling abuse on a daily basis. "They should not be forced to suffer in silence and the delivery companies must do more to tackle abusive and violent customers.
"They must no longer turn a blind eye to the treatment of their drivers.
"The customer is not always right. Sometimes the customer is abusive, violent and needs to be banned.
