US ship is hit by Houthi missile

A HOUTHI missile hit a USowned ship yesterday just off the coast of Yemen, less than a day after fighters fired at an American destroyer.

The first incident took place as the US warship patrolled the Red Sea as part of a 13-nation shipping protection mission against Houthi attacks.

The strike yesterday on the MV Gibraltar Eagle is the latest in weeks of attacks on western shipping which prompted air strikes on Yemen targets by the UK and US.

It comes as violence in the region is increasing, including a vehicle ramming and stabbing attack in Israel that killed a 70-year-old woman and injured at least 17, including children.

The Houthis say they are attacking shipping in support of Hamas in their war with Israel, in which 24,000 Palestinians have died and 1400 Israelis.
