WHETHER watching a blackbird hop across the garden fence, or listening to the sound of pigeons cooing in their nest, interacting with birds can boost our wellbeing.
Indeed, according to research by King's College, London, birdwatching could soon even be prescribed by doctors to improve our mental health.
And, with the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch taking place this weekend, there's never been a better time to embrace your inner twitcher.
"So many of our challenges with mental health are caused by feeling disconnected, either from ourselves, from others, or from the wider world," said Claire Thompson, author of The Art of Mindful Birdwatching.
"Mindful birdwatching - watching and listening to birds as a way of staying in the moment is one of the many ways we can reconnect with the world and reignite our sense of belonging."
