WRONG WAY DRIVER CRASH LEAVES 5 DEAD

A HORROR crash which killed four Scots is believed to have involved a driver travelling the wrong way down the M6.

A 42-year-old man, a woman aged 33 and two boys aged 15 and seven - all from Glasgow - were pronounced dead following the smash on the northbound carriageway near Tebay services in Cumbria.

The driver of the other car also died at the scene.

Emergency services, including two air ambulances, were called to the two-vehicle incident, involving a Skoda and Toyota, on Tuesday.

A third child, a boy aged seven from Glasgow, was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by helicopter, where he was being treated for serious injuries.

Cumbria Police initially received a report that the Skoda had been travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway.

Officers were en route when further calls were received saying it had been involved in a head-on collision.

The families of the people killed in the smash are being supported by specially trained officers.

Photographs on social media showed a plume of black smoke rising into the sky above the motorway at the site of the crash.

The images also showed the tailbacks created by the incident, with traffic backed up across all three lanes of the motorway.
