DINA Asher-Smith sent an ominous warning to her Olympic rivals by overcoming a sloppy start to storm to a second European 100m title.
As thunder cracked above Stadio Olimpico, the British record holder produced a lightning-quick 10.99secs to regain the title she first won in 2018.
Earlier in the evening Asher-Smith served up a European lead of 10.96secs in the semi-finals and despite being slow out of the blocks in the final she successfully completed the job with a stunning final 40m.
Asher-Smith's success came five minutes after Georgia Bell took silver in the 1500m, behind Ireland's Ciara Mageean.
Bell, who works in artificial intelligence, had given up on athletics after finishing college.
