AFTER scouring Europe for a top midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan has fallen into Manchester City’s lap.
The former City skipper and midfield lynchpin, 33, set his heart on an Etihad return as soon as Barcelona said they would have to let him go to balance the books.
And with City boss Pep Guardiola green-lighting the deal, they are ready to sign him up for free on a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
Talks have advanced over the last couple of days, with Gundogan showing no interest in offers from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
