A TINY ant could push lions to the brink of extinction, say boffins.

Invading big-headed ants, left, in East Africa have begun to drive out native rivals that protect acacia trees.

Elephants and other animals are ravaging the trees, leaving fewer hiding places for lions to stalk prey such as zebras, so they risk hunger.
