The star, whose 2014 debut LP1 was nominated for the Mercury Prize, underwent surgery in December 2017 to have fibroids removed from her uterus after months of pain.
She told ES Magazine: "It was really difficult but I think looking back, it's one of the best things that ever happened to me.
"I have a renewed respect and gratitude for the days when I feel good. I was in pain every single day for a year and I didn't know what was wrong with me.
"My stomach hurt to the point where people would talk to me and I couldn't concentrate on what they were saying."
