ENGLAND'S first Test series in Pakistan for 17 years could be delayed for another 24 hours, following a virus that has swept through the England camp, putting the start of the series in doubt.
Had the match been due to start today, England would have been unable to field an XI.
The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that conversations with the ECB are ongoing to prepare for the scenario that England are not able to take the field tomorrow. The illness is not believed to be Covid-related.
"Who knows what will happen?" said Joe Root, standing in for media duties in place of captain Ben Stokes, who is one of those suffering from the virus.
"Whether there would be the possibility to delay it by a day, I don't know.
I've not spoken to anyone and I don't know the ins and outs of it. It's such a monumental tour and important series for so many reasons.
