His agent Jackie Gill told the Standard that Goodman, right, known for his trademark “Seven!” votes, died on Saturday night in a hospice in Kent “surrounded by his family”. “He always kept his sense of humour and great dignity,” she said. “He was a much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.” He announced his retirement from TV six months ago and would have celebrated his 79th birthday tomorrow.
Born in Bethnal Green in east London, Goodman was head judge on Strictly from 2004 until 2016 and also appeared on the US version of the show, Dancing With the Stars, from 2005 until 2022.
