BJP encashed 80% of bonds bought by Nifty, Sensex firms

AMONG THE COMPANIES that bought electoral bonds since April 2019, there are 15 listed in the Nifty 50 index and eight in the 30-scrip BSE Sensex, as per the data published by the State Bank of India (SBI) and the Election Commission on Thursday.

The eight companies in Sensex also figure among the 15 in Nifty-50 index.

The 15 Nifty 50-listed companies account for redeemed electoral bonds worth 646 crore while the Sensex-listed companies account for 337 crore.

The BJP alone redeemed bonds worth 521 crore, accounting for a share of 81% of bonds purchased cumulatively by the 15 Nifty companies.

The eight companies in the Sensex are Bharti Airtel, Ultra Tech Cement, Bajaj Finance, ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma and Tech Mahindra.

All these companies also feature in Nifty list, which includes seven more -Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Divis Laboratories, Cipla, Grasim, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj Auto and UPL Limited.
