HARIDWAR/RUDRAPUR: Eight people have been killed in two separate road accidents in Haridwar and Bageshwar district in the past 24 hours, officers aware of the matter said on Thursday.

In Haridwar, four people were killed in the accident on national highway NH-58 near Bahadrabad on Wednesday night, while four others died after their vehicle fell into a gorge in Bageshwar district on Wednesday evening, they added.

According to Bahadrabad police station house officer Naresh Rathore, the first accident took place near Shani Dev temple in Bahadrabad, 8 km from Haridwar city, when five people from Haryana were on their way to Haridwar. Possibly due to dense fog, the car rammed a cement-laden truck parked on the highway roadside, he added.

"All five people were from the Lisadi village at Rewadi district in Haryana. The deceased passengers were identified as Aditya Singh (38), Kewar Singh (35), Manish Kumar (36) and Prakash Singh (40). The fifth person, Mahipal Ram (37), was injured and has been referred to a higher centre," said Rathore.
