Hindustan Times East UP|December 21, 2024
Water from the Harike Barrage, which flows into the canals of Rajasthan, has been heavily polluted due to industrial effluent discharged from Punjab, minister of Jal Shakti CR Patil said in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
Mukesh Mathrani

BARMER:

Citing the analysis by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in April 2024, Patil said: "The analysis revealed that the water quality of the Indira Gandhi Canal complies with the "C" class of water quality criteria for drinking water, but the water in the Firozpur Feeder Canal showed concerning levels of pollution."

The CPCB and PPCB had monitored water quality in two major canals - Indira Gandhi Canal (Rajasthan Canal) and the Firozpur Feeder Canal.
