Late Jurassic fossils unearthed in Raj's Jaisalmer, say experts

Researchers have unearthed fossilised spores and pollen from the Bhadasar ridge in Jaisalmer basin of the state, offering a glimpse into the region's late Jurassic past, officials familiar with the matter said on Saturday.

The study marks the first record of an age-diagnostic palynological assemblage, shedding light on the coastal and upland ecosystems that existed millions of years ago. The study was conducted by Dr Raj Kumar, Prof Bindhyachal Pandey, Dr Srikanta Murthy, Dr Neelam Das, Dr Neha Aggarwal, and Dr Deo Brat Pathak, researchers from institutions including the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow, and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
