Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday questioned the uproar over comments by a judge of the Allahabad high court last week as he said that justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav did no wrong "by speaking the truth".
Yogi backs HC judge whose remarks raised an uproar

LUCKNOW:

"The Hon'ble justice of Allahabad high court talked about Uniform Civil Code. What wrong has he done by speaking the truth," the CM said at the World Hindu Economic Forum in Mumbai, adding: "There should be Uniform Civil Code in the country."

Justice Yadav, at an event organised by the VHP on December 8, made contentious statements about the Muslim community, the UCC, and the role of majority rule in India. Video clips of the speech show him allegedly using slurs and asserting that the country must function according to the wishes of the majority.

Justice Yadav's speech included comments such as, "This is Hindustan, and this country would function as per the wishes of the 'bahusankhyak' [majority]," and references to practices such as triple talaq and halala, which he argued should not be permitted.

Speaking at the event, the CM said, "In Rajya Sabha, these people have moved an impeachment notice against the Hon'ble Justice. They call themselves democratic. They carry the book of Constitution with them, but they are not ashamed. These are the people who strangle the Constitution."
