Sweeping arrangements put in place to prevent farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh from marching into the national capital triggered traffic slowdowns in several parts of Delhi on Tuesday as commuters navigated a maze of barricades and roadblocks.
Farmers' stir: Citizens hit in fortress Delhi

Apart from multi-layered blockades at the Capital's borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, stringent checks along thoroughfares in the New Delhi zone hobbled traffic times for commuters throughout the day, especially in the city's northern, eastern, southern and southeastern parts.

Police officers aware of the matter said that the security arrangements on the borders and within the city will continue on Wednesday. In a traffic advisory issued on Tuesday night, the Delhi Traffic Police warned commuters of continued diversions and blockades.

At least five senior Delhi Police officers HT spoke to said the measures were pre-emptive action intended to avoid a rerun of January 26, 2021, when protesting farmers stormed the Red Fort.
