Known as the fair and remunerative price or FRP, all cane growers are paid a statutory price by millers that includes profits, which is hiked every year. This way they get an assured rate for their produce. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a hike in prices for sugarcane payable by millers for the fiscal year 2024-25.
The council of ministers cleared an FRP of 2340 per quintal of sugarcane for the sugar year beginning on October 1 2024. Unlike other crops, sugar is a tightly regulated commodity. Mills have to compulsorily pay a government determined FRP to farmers for cane procured from them.
