IT'S been a long wait for Tyron Riley's family. They may never get the answers they're desperate for, but they have finally seen some justice.
Nearly two years ago, the 31-year-old dad-of-three was found leaning against a wall in a Salford park, having been knifed in the chest.
This week, in the fluorescent lights of courtroom two at Manchester Crown Court, Tyron's family finally looked into the eyes of the person who knew exactly what happened the night of December 26, 2022.
Bradley Waters, 18, had earlier pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.
Then just 17, he told police he 'accepted being responsible' for Tyron's death, but said he had acted in self-defence, claiming he was attacked.
He was never charged with murder or the lesser offence of manslaughter. This week, at his sentencing hearing, it finally time for Tyron's family to speak about the devastating impact of his death.
His mum, Nicola Derbyshire, took a seat in the witness box clutching a copy of her victim impact statement.
"My son Tyron sadly lost his life on December 26, 2022," she began, holding back tears.
