Analysis by Unlock Democracy, which campaigns for democratic reforms, has found that one in five eligible voters in the city region are not registered.
Two places in particular - Salford and Manchester Central were found to have amongst the largest potential pool of missing voters. According to estimates by the Electoral Reform Society, 21,034 and 22,112 voters are not registered in each parliamentary constituency. It comes less than two months before the local elections are held in Greater Manchester to elect councillors and the mayor. Eligible voters have until April 16 to register - but Unlock Democracy director Tom Brake believes voters should not have to register at all.
