Crash driver denies killing motorcyclist

A DRIVER allegedly killed a man after crashing into him outside a Tesco Extra before running from the scene and buying some vodka, a trial has heard.

Daniel Masiulis is accused of causing the death of Clive Pinnock by careless driving while he was drunk along Hyde Road, Gorton. He denies the charges.

The opening into his trial at Bolton Crown Court yesterday heard how Mr Masiulis was driving along the road heading towards Manchester at around 5.15pm on April 8, 2020, when he attempted to turn into the Tesco Extra.

Driving "at speed" in the other direction was Clive Pinnock on a green motorbike.

As Mr Masiulis, 38, turned his black BMW into the Tesco car park, the court heard Mr Pinnock hit the vehicle at a high speed and was thrown into the air off his bike.

He suffered head, neck, and pelvis injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening.

Mr Masiulis initially got out of his car and went to Mr Pinnock, however CCTV then showed him jogging from the scene, with other bystanders going to Mr Pinnock's side.

Mr Masiulis then went to a shop in nearby Abbey Hey and bought some vodka and Coca Cola before ringing police from Compstall Grove, the court heard.
