Ahmed Alsharan was stabbed in the heart and pushed into a canal amid the brawl at Piccadilly Basin in the city centre.
The 33-year-old had been drinking coffee with his brother and a friend beside the Rochdale Canal near Dale Street on August 16 last year when they were approached by Mohammed AlEnizi Hameed.
He asked: "Who are you?" Al-Enizi Hameed then issued a 'call to arms' to a group nearby, shouting: "Bring the knife - let's kill them." The group was caught on CCTV running to the scene before Mr Alsharan was stabbed in the heart and pushed into the water. His friend Sami Alhaj was also stabbed and was left with wounds to his abdomen, armpit and lung.
In mobile phone footage played to Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Al-Enizi Hameed's group were seen shouting and gesturing at Mr Alsharan's group as he walked away clutching his side.
