Gangsters 'open fire' in £100k cash raid

RESIDENTS have described how masked gangsters brought terror to a suburban street shooting at and then taxing’ a man for a bag of money.

The drama started when four men wearing dark clothing stepped out of a white Seat and attacked a man who was standing in Overdale, a quiet residential street in Swinton, Salford.

Residents have reported hearing three bangs before the apparent target was seen limping away with a leg injury. The four men snatched a bag from him, thought to contain bundles of cash, and sped off.

Armed cops were scrambled to the scene and pursued two men. Officers seized a number of other bags which they say contained an estimated 100,000.

Yesterday a large section of Overdale remained cordoned off as a police investigation into the apparent shooting continues. Officers were focussing their enquires on one particular property.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area.

Detectives have confirmed a 21-year-old man has been taken to hospital with minor injuries not inflicted by a gun.
