The good news is unavoidable. A 6ft 3in blond centre-forward with pace to burn doesn’t exactly blend into the background. But for the avoidance of doubt, Rasmus Hojund announced his entrance to the biggest stage at Old Trafford on Tuesday night and then celebrated like Jude Bellingham in front of the Stretford End.

He, more than anyone else, had every right to be furious with the slack defending that gifted Galatasaray victory in the Champions League. What should have been Hojlund’s breakthrough night became another inquest into United’s woeful start to the campaign.
But Hojlund’s impact is a reason to hope that all is not lost.
