Horrific murder inquest decision pending

'LEARNING points' have been identified after the brutal murder of a young woman with a coroner to now decide if an inquest into her death should be held.

Elizabeth McCann, 26, was plied with booze before being raped and strangled to death with her own t-shirt by sadistic convicted sex offender Simon Goold.

In February this year Goold, 52, pleaded guilty to murdering her on the second day of his trial and later that month was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 35 years.

His sentencing hearing was told that he had previously been convicted of rape, sexual assault and wounding in October 2010 and was on life licence when he was released from prison in April 2019. After messaging her on Facebook on August 24 last year, he met her for a drink at the Star Inn pub on Old Street before buying her several rounds of double vodka and coke and numerous shots of Sambuca. Ms McCann, who was on medication and rarely drank alcohol, was seen falling over and being physically sick.
