A MAN who killed his father in a hammer attack after shouting 'he's a f****** German' has been found not guilty on the grounds of insanity.
Colin Neil, 52, was suffering from psychosis caused by undiagnosed epilepsy at the time of the fatal attack on his 82-year-old father John.
Neil later told police he adored his father and would never have intentionally hurt him.
His 79-year-old mother tried to fight her son off as he repeatedly hit her husband over the head with a claw hammer at their home in Timperley last summer.
Despite the not guilty verdict, Colin Neil will remain in Ashworth hospital, the high security psychiatric hospital in Merseyside, for further treatment.
Manchester Crown Court heard that Colin Neil had previously tried to get medical help but his condition had only been diagnosed after the killing.
Prosecutors said they were not seeking a murder conviction.
