Lioness Ella roars support for film about football pioneers

Now United's Lioness Ella Toone is backing a film about women from the city who pioneered women's football.

Ella is rallying people to help crowdfund a documentary about trailblazing Mancunians.

The film, The Corinthians: We Were The Champions, will reveal the story of a forgotten female team who played at Fog Lane Park in Didsbury for 20 years and defied the FA to become champions around the world, beating Germany and Juventus.

But the filmmakers need £65,000 to finish the independent documentary and bring it to screen before the women's stories are forgotten forever.

Now Tyldesley-born Ella, who hit the headlines during the 2022 UEFA Women's European competition, scoring against Spain in the quarter-finals and Germany in the final, has given her support to help the Corinthians' story make the screen and hopefully being premiered in Manchester.

Ella, who played for City and Blackburn Rovers joining before United 2018, in described The Corinthians, who found global fame in the 1960s and 70s playing in front of huge crowds in South America and Europe, as 'legends!
