The Ashton-under-Lyne MP made the comment in a wideranging interview with The Observer in which she spoke about the trolling she receives online.
The former Stockport council care worker, on her own website, trumpets how different she is from many other MPs as she never went to university, left school with no qualifications and is ‘not an Oxbridge-educated, former special adviser, professional politician’.
She told the Sunday newspaper many Conservative members of Parliament were ‘quite scared of me... because they don’t often meet people like me’, although she stressed she gets on with colleagues from all sides.
“We’re all parliamentarians and it’s about respecting the fact that we are all here to represent our constituents,” she said. “We may have a difference of opinion, and that’s fine, but we generally rub along OK.
