Emergency services raced to Wilbraham Road in Chorlton just before 8am yesterday, where a Stagecoach bus had collided with a tree.
A police cordon was put in place and the road was shut in both directions while fire crews removed the roof of the wrecked bus. No serious injuries were reported and no arrests were made, the M.E.N. understands Shocked residents said they could not believe the passengers on the bus managed to escape unscathed.
One resident who lives opposite the crash site said she leapt out of bed' after hearing a loud ripping noise! She rushed to the window and saw the bus's roof 'hanging off the back' and passengers on the upper deck frozen in shock.
"It had literally just happened. The roof was hanging off the back and people were taking photographs.
