Mohammed Chowdhury, 22, who had a 'fascination with fast cars, ploughed into 38-year-old Ibizugbe Joy Ikponnmwen as she crossed Alan Turing Way on the evening of October 25, 2021.
He reached 'excessive' speeds of around 80mph in a 30mph zone and was on a phone call moments before the fatal crash. Mrs Ikponnwme suffered catastrophic injuries and tragically she died in hospital that evening.
Chowdhury wept in the dock as he was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday to five years and six months. He earlier pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
The court heard that on the evening of October 25, 2021, a blue Mercedes Benz G63, driven by Chowdhury, was seen driving at high speed along Alan Turing Way in east Manchester. One witness described hearing a 'loud engine noise' before the vehicle passed him at such a speed it caused his car to shake.
