IT TOOK police officers six days to follow up with the family of a young mum after her abusive ex-partner threatened to 'stab' them and 'drive his car into' their house, an inquest has heard.
Shannon Tierney, sister of Regan Tierney, told police Daniel Patten had made the threats during an argument while on a night out in April 2018, and that she was concerned due to his history of violence and coercive control towards Regan.
But when police did attend, the court heard the incident was logged by one officer as 'a two-sided argument with empty threats.
Regan Tierney was stabbed to death by Patten at her house just over a year later, in June 2019. Patten, 31, also found with critical injuries, died two days later in hospital. A coroner previously ruled his death was suicide. An inquest at Bolton Coroners Court yesterday heard how the officers who attended Shannon's house were given no information about Patten's previous violence towards Regan, including a conviction after breaking her nose in 2012.
