MORE than 100 people gathered to oppose a decision to house asylum seekers in a hotel.
Both protesters and Wigan Council disagree with the Home Office decision to house asylum seekers in Kilhey Court Hotel in Standish. And, on Wednesday evening at the authority's full council meeting, the stance was reiterated by Coun Dane Anderton, who stated he wanted to see councils consulted on these matters.
Those who oppose housing asylum seekers in the hotel claim it is unsuitable due to a lack of local amenities, limited public transport, and being on a national speed limit road without a pavement on the doorstep.
