Members of Aslef are taking industrial action, with five days of strikes across the UK.
Greater Manchester will be affected today (Wednesday), when members working for Northern and TransPennine Express walk out. Avanti West Coast drivers, who work on routes between Manchester and London, will strike on Saturday.
Aslef says many of its members have not had a pay rise for years.
General secretary Mick Whelan said: "There isn't a household in the country which hasn't been affected by strikes over the past 18 months, so people know why we are making a stand. It is coming up for five years for many drivers without a pay rise.
