The tragedy on February 6, 1958, claimed the lives of eight Busby Babes and three Old Trafford staff.

Eight sports journalists, including the Manchester Evening News's Tom Jackson, also lost their lives in Germany when the club's plane crashed on takeoff in terrible weather at Munich-Riem Airport following a European Cup tie in Belgrade against Red Star. Twenty-three people died in total.

The club's subsequent league match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford, which was scheduled to take place two days later on February 8, 1958, was abandoned.

Most of the match-day programmes for the game that never was were destroyed. But an auction house has revealed that 65 years later, one of only a handful still believed to be left in existence was discovered.
